《Fundamentals of Project Management 4th Edition》
CHAPTER 4 Establishing a Missionary Aim, Visionary Scope, Set Clear Objectives, and Define Specific Targets for the Project
The vocabulary employed to outline the target includes "mission," "vision," "goals," and "objectives." It is during the early stage when projects often encounter difficulties, as we assume we all share a clear understanding of the mission.
[1]The way a problem is defined determines how you will solve it.
A problem is defined as the difference between your current position and your desired destination, which is prevented by obstacles. An individual goal does not constitute a problem. For a problem to exist, obstacles must be present.
[1]Vision is what the final result will “look like.” It defines “done.”
The objective is to aim for the vision. The mission seeks to address two key inquiries: "What will we be striving towards?" and "Who will be targeted in our pursuit?"
Each project is capable of addressing an issue of some sort, yet individuals often fail to consider the issue's precise definition. This oversight constitutes a significant mistake. The manner in which one defines an issue fundamentally influences the solution strategy, hence establishing an accurate definition from the outset is essential.
When a mission statement has been established, it becomes possible to outline your project objectives. The objectives are significantly more specific than the mission statement itself, establishing clearly defined outcomes that must be achieved for the overall mission to be successfully completed. Additionally, each objective clearly defines its intended end result.
We believe that an objective should be SMART, with each letter representing a condition in question.
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time limited
It is helpful to assess risks of failure ofthe following:
[1]The schedule
[1]The budget
[1]Project quality
[1]Customer satisfaction
You are not attempting to identify all potential risks, but only those that are more likely to occur. This advice should be conveyed to team members who are analytical or may generally exhibit a negative disposition.
